Shore Transcription Services
BE VERY AWARE!
are several companies based in other countries (mainly India) which are offering transcription services for 6 cents
and less per line – well below the national average of America.
old saying “it sounds too good to be true” should be adhered to.
have heard of many complaints from a cross section of doctors utilizing these “off shore” services.
complaints are generally the same:
The transcripts hold many blank spaces where the
transcriptionist could not understand the medical terms used.
On many occasions, instead of leaving a blank space, the
transcriptionist has typed an inappropriate word – completely
changing the context of the transcript.
Being "off shore" these companies do not adhere to HIPAA
information is not protected and neither
the doctor against any violations and penalties.
Doctors are spending several hours a week correcting what
was typed incorrectly – wasting their time when they could be
with a patient, and/or increasing their work load and keeping
them in the office much longer than need be.
what seemed to be a GREAT DEAL to begin with, has caused the doctor's a "great deal" of time and money correcting badly transcribed
material. Doctor's need to be able to TRUST their transcriptionist.
